No, you go to the club and do The Superman. I mean, I like KRS-One, but who wants to grind up on a chica at the club listening to “Step into the World (Rapture’s Delight)”? Seriously. Now his opponent (Guy Number Two) during the forum (the guy who I agree with) stated that even though he wasn’t rapping about the same things KRS-One was rapping about, who are we to say that he has no place in music? I mean, a lot of people don’t like Jazz and Country, but who are we to decide who can or cannot listen to the music they like just because others might not like that genre? Who are we to say that someone else’s preferred genre is not music just because someone else might not like it? And who seriously right now is rapping about the same things KRS-One rapped about back then? Guy Number Two made a comment about what music we hear when we go to the club. He asked the question “Where are all the KRS-Ones and the Rakims and the A Tribe Quests?” He seemed really frustrated on where this music was headed to. One guy made the argument that Soulja Boy was a Pop artist that had no substance to his music and had no business rapping, and some even chimed in and stated that that type of music had no place in music at all. This really bugged me, and not only because I love the direction in which Hip Hop is going but also because I couldn’t understand why people were saying this.ĭuring the forum, it was apparent that two guys really budded-heads on the matter.

It had been brought to my attention at this forum two years ago that a lot of people felt that this music had no place in Hip Hip.

I also participated in a school wide forum at the college that discussed this very matter. I have engaged in debates on this subject matter many-a-time with friends. T-Pain was also thrown into this category along with others such as Soulja Boy and the New Boyz.

Just the other day, I was watching some videos on youtube (like I always do late into the night) and in one of the comments on a Lil’ Wayne video someone stated that Wayne was a bubblegum-pop-rapper and that his music was garbage. Now, people have been saying for quite some time that Hip Hop is dead, but I would have to disagree.
